Please!

I have been having the following conversation with Zach every day for the last 3 months or so:

Z: Oh! Oh! Oh! (while looking and waggling fingers at some food item)
S: Do you want some ____?
Z: Yeah!
S: Can you say please?
Z: Yeah!
S: Say please...
Z: Oh! Oh! Oh!
S: Okay, here you go.

So imagine my surprise last night when I said 'Can you say please?' and he said 'Peez?' in the cutest, sweetest little voice! I had to ask him if he wanted several more items, and he repeated it so it was not a fluke.

Better luck next year

Tootie ran a good race today but he was in a very competitive field - he came in 4th out of 6 so that put him out of the running for the finals. After a thunderstorm last night, it was a brisk windy day, so all the dogs were excited. I think he had fun and made some new friends though. Good job Tootie!

Who's the fastest Weenie?

Tootie is - he won his race today!! This was his fourth year running in the Buda Weiner Dog races, and every year before he has come in third. But today he was like greased lightning! The top two finishers get to go back tomorrow for the finals - wish us luck! It was a beautiful day for it today - Aunt Cynthia came with us too. After the race and a trip to the petting zoo, we all came home and took a nap.

Here is Tootie mentally preparing for his race.

The crowd gets bigger every year!

Tootie is in lane 5 - the blue lane.

Stealing a post

I just realized it's been a week and I haven't posted or even taken any pictures, so I decided to steal these pictures from Georgia's blog in case anyone missed them, because they are too cute to be missed!

On Good Friday Zach's school was closed so Georgia's mommy let Zach come over to play while we went to work (and I can never thank her enough!). Well, ever since then Zach has been even more enamored with Georgia than he was before. Every day when we get home from school, he heads straight for their house, not ours. This was our conversation yesterday:

S: Do you like Georgia?
Z: Yeah!
S: Is she your friend?
Z: Yeah!
S: Is she pretty?
Z: Yeah!
S: Do you want to marry her?
Z: Yeah!

So, we'll see! :)

They are really cute together, that's for sure.

Introducing Monkey

Before he was born, Zachary had a cribful of 'lovies', but he never got attached to any of them. Just within the last month or so though, he has started sleeping with Monkey. I guess it started when he started going to bed in his room. He had been sleeping in our bed, but a month or so ago we converted his crib to a toddler bed and he sleeps there, at least for part of the night. Sometime in the middle of the night, we'll hear his door slam (he always slams it shut behind him, as if to emphasize that he is not going back in there), then there he is in our bed with Monkey. A few nights ago, he was sleeping with us, and at about 4 am he popped up, said 'Uh-oh!' and climbed off the bed, ran into his room, slammed the door shut again, and re-appeared with Monkey - he realized he was missing!
