Cheerios

We finally got our highchair (thanks Aunt Kathleen! and Reid!) so we gave Zachary some Cheerios to see what he would do with them. It was fun to see his intense look of concentration. He enjoyed playing with them but didn't really try to eat them yet. He mainly enjoys banging the tray with his hands.

We also went back to Luby's tonight and got some jello this time. Zachary mushed it around until it was in tiny pieces, then leaned over and sucked it off the tray. They clean those things, right? I choose not to think about it anymore. :)

Six month stats

I am woefully behind in updating the blog because I was sick as a dog all last week, but despite my 102 temperature that day we did manage to get Zachary to the doctor for his six month checkup. Here are his current stats:

Weight: 22 lbs, 6.4 oz
Height: 29 inches

So in the last two months he has gained 2 pounds and 1 inch - not too shabby. He has definitely slowed down some but is still off the charts in all measurements.

Everything else was good - I didn't remember to ask much besides what drugs I could take while nursing!

Mama vs. Dada

Dada is definitely winning, but that's normal right? Right?!

If you watch closely though, he says "Mama", but just silently. :)

Six Months Old

Today is Zachary's half-birthday! We celebrated by meeting Tabitha and Eva and their parents at Luby's for lunch. Zachary had a good time sitting in the high chair - I was going to get him some jell-o to play with but they didn't have any. What is up with that? Anyway, we had a nice visit with the girls and their folks.

After lunch Zachary and I took a long nap, and after we woke up, he could sit up! He's been sort of sitting up for a while now, but this time he sat there for a good 10 minutes and played with his toys. Amazing.

I shot this video right after he had been sitting up for a while. Just ignore the end part. (Bad Mom!) :)

We go for our doctor visit and shots on Wednesday. Yes, Valentine's Day - it was the only opening they had. I haven't weighed him lately but I think he's still right around 22 pounds, maybe 23. That day will also be our half-anniversary, so we'll have to celebrate since we sort of missed our first wedding anniversary. We were kind of busy with something around that time...

Anyway, Zachary is laughing a lot now - he really laughs when Charles plays with Tootie, or if you blow raspberries on his belly. He's especially ticklish around his ribcage. He's finally interested in Tootie and Timmi - he watches them when they walk by and pets them if they get close enough. He also likes to grab the little ball ceiling fan pulls that Uncle Robert gave him - one is a basketball and one is a baseball. It took him a while to grab them but once he gets them he likes to make it click.

He's now tried peas, carrots and bananas - the bananas were definitely a hit! No teeth yet, but plenty of drool.

First boo-boo

As if it wasn't hard enough leaving my precious baby with strangers, Tuesday afternoon I got a call from Charles near the end of the day informing me that I should probably go pick up Zachary because he had fallen out of the stroller at daycare. They have this four-seater stroller that they load up the babies in and take them out for walks - I had strapped Zachary in just the day before and seen how much he loved it. Well, apparently one of the helper ladies had put him in it but didn't have him completely strapped in yet, and he went toppling off onto the ground. I raced over there with my heart in my throat, but when I got there he gave me his normal big smile and seemed fine. They had watched him carefully and didn't let him go to sleep until I got there. I was glad they were so forthcoming about what had happened, but oy. Just oy. He has a little bitty bruise on his chin that is almost gone now, which seems to be the only lasting effect of the incident. I'm sure I have many more boo-boos to look forward to, but I wish he could have gotten by a little longer. Poor baby!

First Food

My mom's friend Ann put this together - thank you Ann!
