New shoes!

We have been noticing that it is hard to get Zach's shoes on lately, so on Sunday we took him to the Striderite at the mall to get him fitted again. It turns out his shoes were a full size too small, and he has gone from the 6 he was wearing to a 7 (still extra wide). The shoe lady suggested a 7 1/2 to give some growing room, so he actually gained a size and a half. He was very excited to wear his new shoes home. Here he is with Daddy getting ready for school on St. Patrick's Day yesterday - shoes!! :)

p.s. - He is holding a piece of raisin toast because he slept through breakfast. We still have not quite adjusted to the time change. He still had a scrap of "yummy toast!" when he got to his room at school, causing a small riot amongst the toddlers. We have learned our lesson.

Shoe hound

Zach loves his shoes. He loves to play with them, and he loves to wear them. Here, he had piled them all in a little pyramid in his window by the front door. He also loves this little window - it is the perfect vantage point for him to scope out the neighborhood.

Kite Festival

This past Sunday we went to the Zilker Kite Festival. We parked at my office parking garage and walked over to the park on the Lady Bird Lake hike and bike trail. Zachary had so much fun crossing the bridge, seeing all the dogs and birds and people. He took full advantage of the people watching opportunities at the festival! We spread our blanket and had some hot dogs, and Zachary ran around picking up sticks and making friends. It was the windiest day in a long time!

Happy Birthday Uncle Jim!

Dear Uncle Jim,

I really like your funny faces. Thanks again for the awesome birthday brisket. Maybe next year I'll get to go up on the roof with you.

Cute things Zach is doing right now

- He will bring you something, hand it to you, and say "Thank you!"

- When he runs or walks fast, he holds his left arm still but swings his right arm wildly.

- Charles got some new white tennis shoes and Zach is obsessed with them. The second Charles walks in the door, Zach yells 'Shoes!!' and must help him take them off.

- Every night he marches to the bed, then we have to put water in the humidifier. He carries the tank to the bathroom, holds the cap while I fill it up, then helps me carry it back and put it back on.

- He likes to push Georgia in her Backyardigans bike with the handle.

- Whenever he spots a playground as we are driving, he says 'Oh! Oh! Oh!'

- On the way home from daycare there is a certain intersection where the power lines are always covered in grackles, so he says 'More! More!' until we open the sunroof so he can see them.

This list is pretty much endless but that's all for now!

Ribbit

No, it is not raining today - it is another beautiful Sunday. Zach just decided to pull down the coatrack in the entryway this morning, then wanted to model his raincoat. The first picture is significant because it is the first time he has actually stopped moving to pose when I told him to say cheese! This is a good thing because Tuesday is going to be class picture day - they must have been practicing.

18 month stats

I almost forgot! We took Zach to the doctor this week for his 18 month checkup (of course his half birthday was a week before but I have lost track of all time). Here are his stats:

Height - 35 inches, off the charts
Weight - 29 lbs 10 oz, 90th percentile (so he's definitely stretching out a little)
Head - 50.5 cm, off the charts

So we are obviously looking at a piano-playing, brain surgeon/NBA star here. :)

He got two shots but that should be it until he is 4, unless they come up with some new ones before then. And then there are flu shots... anyway, we didn't make any promises.

In other news, yesterday I was at work studying the resume of the guy I was due to interview for the open position at my job (I had had the resume for over a week so of course I decided the perfect time to look at it was 20 minutes before I was supposed to interview him) when my office phone rang. I checked the display and as usually happens when this certain number comes up, my stomach clenched a little - it was Zach's daycare. This is never good. I answered, and it was Miss Marcia, who is a very nice lady I became well acquainted with during the time I was visiting Zach at daycare every day during his first year. She is in charge of snacks, so of course she is well loved around there. Also, she is German so she doesn't beat around the bush, and quickly informed me that moments before, during snack, Zach had decided to shove two Cheerios up his nose. Yes, one for each nostril. They had managed to retrieve 1.5 Cheerios, so she was calling to inform me that he may or may not have 1/2 a Cheerio still in his nose. Now, we have a family history of just such an activity, but I of course will not name names... (cough, KATHLEEN... cough cough, DAD!), but up until now, he had only tried to stick things in his ears, so this came as somewhat of a shock! After quick calls to consult with Charles and my mom, I decided to go on and do my interview and hope for the best - surely the 1/2 Cheerio would work itself out. Marcia said he did not appear to be in any distress, so we told them to just call if anything changed. When I got home, Zach was on the couch munching Pirate's Booty and watching TMZ like nothing had happened, so we survived another day. I checked his daily report from school, and under morning snack Ms. Rae had written "Cheerios (Cheer-e-NOSE! :) )". Ha ha, very funny Ms. Rae!

Sunday frolic

It was a beautiful sunny day this past Sunday, so after church we checked out the playground before we went home.

Goin' Bananas

Today was a fun day - we went to Georgia's birthday party at Goin' Bananas, a big indoor party place full of bouncy thingies. Lots of fun was had by all, and her Elmo cake was quite delicious!

Happy birthday Georgia!
