Day 6 - Beach Day
On Thursday we went to the tidepools at La Jolla (beautiful), then we went to the beach at Del Mar. Zach had a lot of fun picking up shells and playing in the sand and water. He is fearless and jumped into the waves with no qualms whatsoever. I, as a mother, wish he had a few more qualms. He immediately fell asleep in the car when we left the beach, so Charles took me on a driving tour of his neighborhood from high school. We picked up some yummy burritos and went back to the hotel, relaxed, did some laundry, and watched the Celtics. And went to the pool, of course. :) This was a fun day, but somehow we ended up with only two pictures!

Balboa Park / Trains
Okay, back to our San Diego trip! On our fourth day in San Diego, we went to Balboa Park, the largest urban park in the country, full of beautiful gardens and museums. The civic leaders of San Diego set aside 1400 acres over 100 years ago to be used as a city park and boy did they know what they were doing - it is fantastic. Zachary really liked this dragon statue.

The Spreckels Organ Pavilion - next time we go we are going to make sure we are there for a performance.
El Cid!

Charles showed us around Muni - the municipal gym in the park where he used to play basketball with Bill Walton.
One of Charles's favorite stories of Balboa Park is the time he set his pet turtle free to live in this pond. Apparently they now have a sign just for him!

After we rode the choo-choo, we went to the train museum. Zach was in Choo-choo nirvana! This place has room after room of giant landscapes with model trains running around.
After a nap back at the hotel, we went to the mall across the street for a quick dinner and watched the ice skaters. Then we swam in the pool, of course.

3rd Haircut
Whoever came up with this concept is a genius. Not only does Zachary get to sit in a fire engine truck and watch Thomas the Train, he got two suckers, some stickers, and a balloon. I don't have a good photo of the results, but according to Charles you can't even tell he got a haircut so it's okay. :)

Day four - Zoo Day!!
Tuesday morning after a good breakfast we headed to the World Famous San Diego Zoo, arriving just as it opened. We started our day in the reptile house. Zach was enthralled - I think a visit to the Snake Farm is in order for later in the summer!

We then caught the Skyfari aerial tram to get a birds' eye view of the zoo. Zach was not too sure about this.

Charles got some great pictures of the animals. This is just a small sampling.
