Okay, back to our San Diego trip! On our fourth day in San Diego, we went to
Balboa Park, the largest urban park in the country, full of beautiful gardens and museums. The civic leaders of San Diego set aside 1400 acres over 100 years ago to be used as a city park and boy did they know what they were doing - it is fantastic. Zachary really liked this dragon statue.

The
Spreckels Organ Pavilion - next time we go we are going to make sure we are there for a performance.

El Cid!

Charles showed us around
Muni - the municipal gym in the park where he used to play basketball with Bill Walton.
One of Charles's favorite stories of Balboa Park is the time he set his pet turtle free to live in this pond. Apparently they now have a sign just for him!

We couldn't leave the park without a ride on the train!!

After we rode the choo-choo, we went to the train museum. Zach was in Choo-choo nirvana! This place has room after room of giant landscapes with model trains running around.
After a nap back at the hotel, we went to the mall across the street for a quick dinner and watched the ice skaters. Then we swam in the pool, of course.
