Aaaaaaaand.... He's off!

It's official - we can no longer put Zachary down and expect him to still be there if we turn away for a minute. He has gotten really good at rolling around to wherever he wants to be.

Hmmm, I guess we'd better get started with that childproofing stuff!

This video is long and not too exciting, but just shows his rolling skills a little. He can do even better when he's not trying to hold onto his pig.

She looks pretty good for twenty-seventeen. :-)

Welcome Spring!

The force is strong with this one!

Happy Birthday Andrew!!!

How is it that you keep getting older but I stay the same?!

Saucy thing!

Apparently Zachary learned how to stick out his tongue yesterday. He is quite pleased with this development and sticks it out at every opportunity, while grinning. It is the cutest thing I have ever seen! I don't have a picture yet but will take one at the first opportunity, which shouldn't be long, unless he's gotten tired of his new trick already which is also a distinct possibility.

I can wait here all day...

Finger foods

Zachary is really starting to like eating Cheerios and those puffs they have now for babies. He can't quite get them to his mouth yet though - he can grab one and then sucks his fingers while holding it in his fist. But here he is one of the first times he actually chewed and swallowed one the other day...

More breaking news!

We have two teeth! This morning tooth #1 (lower left) had broken through, and we thought we saw the lower right one coming in too. Zachary chewed on his razberry teether while we drove up to check out The Domain, and when we got home, tooth #2 had made its appearance! He has been extremely happy and talkative all weekend - I think he's glad they finally made it through.

Frog suit!

Seven months old!

Zachary is feeling much better today! I can't believe another month has gone by already. I think going back to work made time seem to go by faster, being segmented into weeks now instead of just one long day at home. Zach is getting really comfortable with sitting now - I still put the boppy behind him but now he frequently maneuvers himself out of it anyway. He grabs at everything, especially my hair, and is starting to bang things together. His favorite toy is his yellow ball with the handy finger holes (thanks Grandmother!). We've kind of slacked off on the solid foods - he hasn't really been in the mood the last couple of weeks, but I'm sure we'll pick them up again soon. He seems to enjoy playing with his friends at daycare - everytime I set him on the floor he immediately has a gaggle of little girls around him. I don't think I've gotten past month 5 in my "What to Expect the First Year" book, but he seems fine to me!

Ear infection :-(

Zachary had a mild cold all last week, but Saturday his eyes started getting all goopy. We called the doctor and she said she suspected an ear infection, but as long as he was acting okay and not running a fever, to just keep the eyes clean and wait and see. By Monday they had not gotten better, so we called and made an appointment for the next day (they were really busy, apparently). Monday night he was running a slight fever, which was a first. When we got there, she took one look in his ears and her suspicions were confirmed. She prescribed an antibiotic, also a first - I guess we did pretty well to get to almost 7 months. Today there is already a great improvement... he is still coughing but his eyes are clear. Hopefully the medicine will knock it right out! Also, I think I saw the beginnings of a tooth today, which would also explain the fever and general fussiness. We'll see!

Happy Birthday Carolyn!

We look just the same! :-)

Big boy tub

Zachary has been sick the last week, so last night we gave him a bath with some Soothing Vapor Bath - that stuff is potent! I'm going to use it when I'm sick! Anyway, he has been wanting to sit up in his baby tub for a while now so we finally just decided to retire it. Now we can finally use all those bath toys!

Happy Birthday Uncle Jim!

Playing with Timmi

What a difference a few months makes...

I forgot to mention in the 6 month stats that Zachary's head size has increased from 42 1/2 cm at 2 months to 46 3/4 cm at 6 months!

Cheerios

We finally got our highchair (thanks Aunt Kathleen! and Reid!) so we gave Zachary some Cheerios to see what he would do with them. It was fun to see his intense look of concentration. He enjoyed playing with them but didn't really try to eat them yet. He mainly enjoys banging the tray with his hands.

We also went back to Luby's tonight and got some jello this time. Zachary mushed it around until it was in tiny pieces, then leaned over and sucked it off the tray. They clean those things, right? I choose not to think about it anymore. :)

Six month stats

I am woefully behind in updating the blog because I was sick as a dog all last week, but despite my 102 temperature that day we did manage to get Zachary to the doctor for his six month checkup. Here are his current stats:

Weight: 22 lbs, 6.4 oz
Height: 29 inches

So in the last two months he has gained 2 pounds and 1 inch - not too shabby. He has definitely slowed down some but is still off the charts in all measurements.

Everything else was good - I didn't remember to ask much besides what drugs I could take while nursing!

Mama vs. Dada

Dada is definitely winning, but that's normal right? Right?!

If you watch closely though, he says "Mama", but just silently. :)

Six Months Old

Today is Zachary's half-birthday! We celebrated by meeting Tabitha and Eva and their parents at Luby's for lunch. Zachary had a good time sitting in the high chair - I was going to get him some jell-o to play with but they didn't have any. What is up with that? Anyway, we had a nice visit with the girls and their folks.

After lunch Zachary and I took a long nap, and after we woke up, he could sit up! He's been sort of sitting up for a while now, but this time he sat there for a good 10 minutes and played with his toys. Amazing.

I shot this video right after he had been sitting up for a while. Just ignore the end part. (Bad Mom!) :)

We go for our doctor visit and shots on Wednesday. Yes, Valentine's Day - it was the only opening they had. I haven't weighed him lately but I think he's still right around 22 pounds, maybe 23. That day will also be our half-anniversary, so we'll have to celebrate since we sort of missed our first wedding anniversary. We were kind of busy with something around that time...

Anyway, Zachary is laughing a lot now - he really laughs when Charles plays with Tootie, or if you blow raspberries on his belly. He's especially ticklish around his ribcage. He's finally interested in Tootie and Timmi - he watches them when they walk by and pets them if they get close enough. He also likes to grab the little ball ceiling fan pulls that Uncle Robert gave him - one is a basketball and one is a baseball. It took him a while to grab them but once he gets them he likes to make it click.

He's now tried peas, carrots and bananas - the bananas were definitely a hit! No teeth yet, but plenty of drool.

First boo-boo

As if it wasn't hard enough leaving my precious baby with strangers, Tuesday afternoon I got a call from Charles near the end of the day informing me that I should probably go pick up Zachary because he had fallen out of the stroller at daycare. They have this four-seater stroller that they load up the babies in and take them out for walks - I had strapped Zachary in just the day before and seen how much he loved it. Well, apparently one of the helper ladies had put him in it but didn't have him completely strapped in yet, and he went toppling off onto the ground. I raced over there with my heart in my throat, but when I got there he gave me his normal big smile and seemed fine. They had watched him carefully and didn't let him go to sleep until I got there. I was glad they were so forthcoming about what had happened, but oy. Just oy. He has a little bitty bruise on his chin that is almost gone now, which seems to be the only lasting effect of the incident. I'm sure I have many more boo-boos to look forward to, but I wish he could have gotten by a little longer. Poor baby!

First Food

My mom's friend Ann put this together - thank you Ann!
